• 1979 – Post Graduate Department of Social Work founded, offering MSW (2 year PG) programme with
  Community Development Specialization
• 1980 – Human Resources Management introduced as a specialization
• 1987 – Autonomous status conferred by the University of Madras to the Department
• 1988 – First in the country to introduce Youth Development as a specialization in MSW
• 1989 – Department celebrates its Decennial Year
• 1993 – Co-Education introduced in the Department
• 2000 – College Accredited Four Star level by NAAC (National Assessment and Accreditation Council)
• 2000 – Ph. D. Programme in Social Work introduced
• 2001- Golden Jubilee of the College
• 2001 – Recognized by UGC as Resource centre for Updated Curriculum in Social Work
• 2004 – Silver Jubilee of the Dept. of Social Work
• 2006 – College reaccredited with ‘A’ Grade by NAAC
• 2007 – Choice Based Credit System introduced
• 2010 – M. Phil programme in Social Work initiated
• 2013 –Silver Jubilee of Youth Development Specialization
